Description

Glenguin Vineyard was first planted in the 1980s with an average vine age now over 25 years and each wine comes from a small individual vineyard block on the property. Organic and biodynamic farming practices are used at Glenguin where things are still done by hand from planting through vine training to pruning and handpicking at vintage.
The shiraz and semillon vines at Glenguin are directly descended from James Busby’s original planting at Kirkton in the 1820s. They are planted on their own roots on a unique combination of a raised gravel bench for shiraz with sandy loam over red basalt for Semillon.
Glenguin wines have won major Trophies including NSW and Boutique Wine Show Trophies for best white wine plus both Best Red and NSW Wine of the Year at the NSW Wine Awards for shiraz. Production is extremely limited with just a few hundred cases of each of their wines which are only made in good vintages.

From the winery:  “From the 3-acre Semillon block in Broke comes our 2018 Glenguin Vineyard Semillon.

First planted in 1993 with cuttings from some of the Hunter Valley’s most respected Semillon vineyards (including HVD, Stevens and Braemore) with lineage which stretches back to the first plantings of Semillon in Australia at Kirkton by James Busby. Sandy loam over red basalt soils provides the perfect environment for Semillon to thrive. Picked February 8, 2018.

Lemon and lime provide the backdrop with a steel-like minerality running through and high, yet balanced, natural acidity. A wine that can certainly be enjoyed in its youth, however will reward with the passage of time.”  Alc 11.5%

92 points, Hallidays Wine Companion “The average yield is lower than many other Hunter Valley semillons. The source block is 33yo, the cuttings coming from Tyrrell’s HVD Vineyard. The ’18 vintage is now settling down, with rich, layered fruit and good acidity. Drink till 2033”
