Description
James Kellie (formerly of Howard Park) has had extraordinary success in a relatively short time, winning trophies galore and for over 10 consecutive years awarded the elusive 5 Red Star rating (the highest recognition possible from James Halliday, Australia’s most influential wine critic awarded to top 5% of wineries for “a consistent record of excellence”).
Harewood Estate vineyard is located in the spectacularly beautiful coastal town of Denmark in Western Australia’s Great Southern wine region, 5 hours south east of Perth. The Great Southern wine growing region of WA provides unmatched versatility and quality for a winemaker. From the elegance and delicacy of cool climate Riesling to the restrained intensity of Denmark Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. The texture and richness of Mount Barker Cabernet and the structure, weight and complexity of Frankland River Shiraz. Harewood Estate showcases this potential in a range of wines produced from grapes grown in select, low yielding vineyards.
From the winery: “The fruit for this wine was grown in cool climate vineyards situated in the Denmark, Porongurup and Mount Barker sub-regions of the Great Southern wine region in Western Australia – a blend of 63% Sauvignon Blanc and 37% Semillon.
Only the finest, more “pristine”, free-run juice was used resulting in a wine of outstanding elegance and purity, free from any harsh, phenolic characters associated with grape skins.
A cool ferment in stainless steel, minimal fining and the use of screw caps are all further steps towards capturing the inherent delicacy of this cool climate blend.
A brilliant, pale straw colour with youthful green hues. An intense, pungent nose displaying gooseberry and passionfruit with hints of tropical fruit and grassy citrus notes. The use of only free-run juice is reflected in the seamless purity of the palate. Mouth-watering citrus fruits are balanced by more tropical passionfruit and pineapple notes. Hints of flint and spice in the mid-palate lead to a lingering fine finish of grapefruit.”
