Voted in Best of the Best Semillon for 2015 in James Halliday’s 2015 Australian Wine Companion.
Gold at 2015 Sydney Wine Show.
From the winemaker … At 5 years on release the colour is starting to head to straw but still with lovely green tints. The aromas show lifted cut hay and citrus rind characters. Some vanillin and nougat evident on the palate along with background lemon grass. Long palate flavours and acidity.
96 points James Halliday .. “The colour is still pale, although bright; the lemongrass and citrus bouquet leads into a totally delicious, albeit still developing, palate; here Meyer lemon, lemon curd and immaculately balanced acidity and pH drive the wine through to its long finish.”
96 points, Mike Bennie, The Wine Front … “One of Brokenwood’s single, semillon vineyards and has been sourced from since 1983 … A whiff of beehives and honey, but set to citrus, granny smith apple and a touch of oyster shell scents. It’s impossibly youthful and fresh to taste, a touch of juiciness, like a fresh squeeze of lime in crystal clear water, but tension too, and length. Great length. Succulent in acidity and so very pretty. Beautiful expression in a wonderful place. So very good.”
96 points Huon Hooke SMH (31/3/15) “This is a great semi-mature semillon such as only the Hunter can produce. It has lemony fruit and straw-bale, nuances. The palate is fresh and intense. Great length and lip-smacking dry finish. Delicious.”
