Named as a tribute to Len Pumpa, a pioneering Eden Valley grower back in the 1920s who preserved the vineyards that they are custodians of today. Co-owners, Corey Ryan (cut his teeth” as winemaker at Henschke for 10 years) winemaker and Simon Cowham (ex-viticulturist Yalumba) have weaved their magic with this release.
A fine blend of Eden Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 87%, Shiraz 13% (50 odd year old vineyard with minuscule yields 1- 2 ton per acre, All parcels hand harvested and fermented separately in small 1 – 2 tonne open fermenters) followed by 15 months in predominantly French oak…. Plush aromatic dark cherry fruit complemented by cassis and cedar notes of cabernet sauvignon and a touch of tempranillo which adds a savoury undertone and softens the fine grained and textured tannins. Rich ripe fruit with power and great length of flavour is a reflection of how well these varieties from Eden Valley marry together.
