Description
Sons of Eden are rising stars of the Barossa. Co-owners, Corey Ryan (“cut his teeth” as winemaker at Henschke for 10 yrs) winemaker and Simon Cowham (ex-viticulturist Yalumba) can do no wrong!
Made in only exemplary years. This classic wine is Sons’ offering to Eurus, Greek God of the East Wind, and is only made in exemplary vintages when Eden Valley Cabernet Sauvignon displays outstanding quality. Eden Valley is typically cooled in the mornings and evenings by Easterly gully winds which are ideal for slowing the ripening and refining varietal flavours.
This wine is from the vintage’s best Cabernet Sauvignon barrels and in 2022 was produced from predominantly the Cranes Range (37 year old vines) and Long Gully (35 year old) vineyards within Eden Valley.
The fruit was handpicked and 100% de-stemmed into an open top fermenter, where it remained for 18 days. Naturally fermented and hand plunged daily then pressed to a mix of new and seasoned French oak hogsheads for maturation. Matured in barrel for 15 months with no racking, before being clarified and bottled without filtration.
Deep crimson in colour, with vibrant black-olives, spiced-cedar, cloves and fresh blackcurrant aromas. A refined and focused palate, displaying complex brooding characters, with a rounded and fleshy mid-palate. A wine with lovely structural tannins, which will mature gracefully for many years to come.
96 Points Wine Orbit , Sam Kim “ It’s wonderfully opulent while retaining varietal purity, showing cassis, brown spice and tobacco characters with a lovely oak infusion. The palate delivers excellent concentration and refined texture, superbly structured by fine, grainy tannins. Harmonious and complex with a prolonged, satisfying finish.”
93 Points, Dave Brookes for Halliday Wine Companion “Deep crimson in the glass with ripe blackberry, satsuma plum and blackcurrant fruits cut with hints of briar, baking spices, cedar, earth, violets and licorice. There’s a graceful plume of fruit on the palate, which is spicy and herb-flecked with fine, sandy tannin support and a medium-length finish with a touch of red cherry flowing in on the exit.”
93 Points, Ned Goodwin, James Suckling “Black currants, wild berries, crushed herbs, dried currant leaves, cedar and raw coffee beans on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied, with mellow dark fruit and minty, spicy notes. Tannins are creamy and supple with a velvety-textured finish.”
