NOTUS, the Greek God of the Southerly wind, is made from old vine Grenache. After basking in the warm summer climate of the Barossa Valley the vines welcome the arrival of the cooling Southerly wind which marks the transition from summer to autumn and so coincides with the last stage in the ripening process of Grenache.
100% Grenache. Fruit comes from Trial Hill – Barossa Valley 95 year-old vines; Light Pass – Barossa Valley 60+ year-old vines and Vine Vale – Barossa Valley 60+ year-old vines. The Grenache was hand harvested and sorted to ensure only the best bunches were retained. The fruit was destemmed with the inclusion of 25% whole-bunch clusters into a selection of small closed-style, egg shaped fermenters. After a brief cold-soak period, the fruit was allowed to warm naturally to start fermentation. Both hand and foot plunged daily, helped to manage the temperature exchange and the overall extraction. After 25-days on skins the fermenters were pressed off to large oak barrels for a 6-month maturation. Prior to bottling the wine was racked to blend, naturally clarified and then bottled.
Bright ruby in colour, with an alluring bouquet of assorted wild berries, red licorice and a hint of confectionary. The palate is very seductive blending richness and roundness with vibrancy and dexterity. A modern style Barossa Grenache that is ideal for enjoyment upon release but with careful cellaring will mature beautifully for the medium term. 145% alc.

The palate is medium-bodied with finely integrated tannins and bright acidity, showing notes of cassia bark, dark cherries, potpourri and dried herbs. Wonderfully plush and lifted with a underlying power.”

Generously concentrated wine with abundant strawberry raspberry fruits and fine chocolaty tannins. Some flinty/ graphite/ herb garden notes at the finish. Very big presence with lovely density and vigour.”
94 Points, Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion “The Sons of Eden crew do a good grenache. This one seems to me to be a bit deeper in fruit than the previous year’s release. Those plum tones are a little darker, there’s a sarsaparilla-like edge to the bunchy tones (25% this year) but the palate is still silky and supple with purple floral facets and an appealing density of fruit and spice. Fine, sandy tannins and bright acidity provide a frame for the fruit as it slowly fades.”
