90 points, Bacchus Magazine, May 2025 “They call it “the white Barolo.” Nothing less. Roero Arneis, a DOCG appellation from Piedmont, on the left bank of the Tanaro, long overshadowed by its red cousins, is back in the spotlight. A capricious grape variety, Arneis—which means “little troublemaker” in the local dialect—has finally found its home: the sandy hills of Roero, where it gives its best. On the nose, it reveals aromas of crisp Williams pear, green apple, white flowers, fennel, and that hint of sweet almond that characterizes Arneis. On the palate, the attack is frank and chiseled, with taut but well-integrated acidity. The wine glides, unfurls, but doesn’t fade. It settles, clean, precise, almost saline. The finish is of lemon peel, apricot, and a hint of fresh grass. It’s dry, straightforward, and unadorned—but with style. In short, a characterful, lively, and charming white wine that rivals the great entry-level Burgundies. No oak or pretension.”
Made in minute quantities, this undergoes skin-contact fermentation to amplify its textural complexity and aromatic intrigue. Delicious!
