Description
Over the last 400 years, the Droin family has collected small holdings of top premier and grand cru Chablis vineyards . Since 1999 Benoît, Jean-Paul’s son, has elevated the family domaine to the very top of the Chablis tree assisted by their outstanding collection of vineyards; meticulous vineyard management, severely restricted yields and careful élevage of the individual cuvees. Droin style is one of purity and transparency coupled with powerful concentration and deep minerality and are one of the great quality bargains of Burgundy. There are plenty of glowing reviews about their wines below, but take my word for it .. you too will be captivated by the mineral depth and the purity of fruit. Everyone who tries these wines is hugely impressed!!
Some other recent praise for the Domaine…..
3 Stars – “This domain is part of the classics of Chablis, with a very beautiful patrimonie of premiers and grands crus. The wines are marked by a strong vertebral acid column, and age a long time.” Le Grand Guide de Vins de France, Bettane & Desseauve (“3 Stars – Signals a production of high quality that serves as a reference in his region.”).
5 Stars/REMARKABLE – Les meilleurs Vins de France , Gault & Millau
Benoit Droin reached the top of the tree in Chablis when La Revue du Vin de France (the leading most respected french wine publication) elevated it to a 3 star rating alongside the two greats: Raveneau & (Vincent) Dauvissat last year! (only 73 domaines out of a total 1500 of the top domaines in France get the coveted 3 star rating)
Attention to detail every step of the way in the vineyard and winery and much hard work has got them to the top. Calling all chardonnay lovers… these wines across the board are absolute bargains when you consider the lofty prices of wines of Puligny and Chassagne-Montrachet in the Cote de Beaune!! There is a wonderful crystal purity to the fruit concentration, mouthwatering freshness and minerality in these fine wines… I can’t recommend these Benoit Droin wines highly enough.
Reviews on this wine:
(90 – 93) – “(from Côte de Bréchain; 20 to 25% of new, 1, 2 and 3 year old wood). “The generous wood treatment stops just short of dominating the pretty floral, lemon rind, mineral reduction and white peach aromas. There is excellent volume and concentration to the vibrant medium weight flavors that possess plenty of zip as well as that beguiling character of inner mouth perfume.” Burghound Issue # 53
