Airlie Bank Chardonnay 2016

Description

Airlie Bank wines are made by Tim Shand at Punt Road winery in Coldstream.  Airlie Bank was the original name of Melbourne’s Punt Road Hill in the 1850’s.  The property was owned by David Ogilvy, a Scottish lawyer who named the property after Airlie Castle in Scotland, the spritual home of the Ogilvy clan.  Ogilvy planted a vineyard on the banks of the hill stretching down to the Yarra River.  The wines made there were “celebrated” by the local community, according to the history books.  Nowadays the vineyards are long gone and Airlie Bank is prime real estate a stones throw from Melbourne’s CBD. The vineyards are now located in the cool climate of the picturesque Yarra Valley.

Winemaker Tim Shand and the team enjoy freedom to push boundaries with this label. With his dynamic team, this young, ambitious, gifted winemaker is pushing boundaries in the vineyard and winery.  As Tim says, this ain’t no second-string, big-part player!  Airlie Bank is the real deal, daring to treat drinkers with respect, dishing up delicious wines with real interest and class. Their small-batch ethos has led to a great deal of creativity and ever-decreasing doses of sulphur. Nothing is off the cards when they sniff an opportunity to make a more compelling wine.  Pure drinking pleasure is the one-point manifesto of Airlie Bank, and the thirsty take-up across the board shows that they’re hitting the mark.
