Description
Sons of Eden co-owners, Corey Ryan (“cut his teeth” as winemaker at Henschke for 10 yrs) winemaker and Simon Cowham (ex-viticulturist Yalumba) can do no wrong! Old Vine shiraz from their 80 yr old Lightpass and Moppa vineyard in the Barossa Valley.. 20 months in predominantly new American and French oak. A wine that is powerful, concentrated, intense (very true to its Roman mythological namesake) and yet smooth,. … Be sure to decant this wine for at least two hours or cellar it for a decade!
Deep crimson in colour with a complex aroma of dense cherry and red berry fruits together with nuances of dried herb and vanilla bean. A powerful and fleshy palate of plums, red berries and spice are balanced with persistent silky tannins.
GOLD MEDAL – 2016 Barossa Valley Wine Show.
95 points Gourmet Traveller Wine, Aug 2016 “The bouquet reveals ginger, dried citrus peels and these nuances are joined on the palate by anise and preserved black plum. It’s an intense, but quite refined Barossa Shiraz: powerful, muscular and very long on the palate. A cracking wine.”
93 points, Huon Hooke, May 2016 in New & Noteworthy. “This latest tasting of 140 young shirazes has many highlights, one of which was Sons Of Eden. Their 2014 and 2013 releases were all impressive. If you like big, rich, dark-coloured, dense Barossa and Eden Valley shiraz, this little Barossa based winery is hard to look past. Romulus is the Barossa old vine shiraz; Remus is the Eden Valley equivalent. Both are exceptional.
Deep red/purple hue, with a rich, fruitcake and cinnamon spice aroma. The palate is full-bodied, rich and deep, with clean, focused flavour and mouth-filling volume. Lovely wine. Spicy for a Barossa wine. A really smart big red.”
