Description
Sons of Eden co owners, Corey Ryan ( “cut his teeth ” as winemaker at Henschke for 10 yrs) winemaker and Simon Cowham ( ex viticulturist Yalumba) can do no wrong!
Old vine shiraz from their 80 yr old Lightpass and Moppa vineyard in the Barossa Valley.. 20 months in predominantly new American and French oak. A wine that is powerful, concentrated, intense (very true to its Roman mythological namesake) and yet smooth.. … Be sure to decant this wine for at least two hours or cellar it for a decade!
Wonderful follow up to their multi Gold & Trophy winning 2010 release. Deep crimson in colour with a complex aroma of dense plum and red berry fruits together with nuances of licorice, spice and vanilla bean. A powerful and fleshy palate of plums, red berries and spice are balanced with persistent silky tannins.
96 points James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2015 “Consistent with the ’10 vintage, the colour is distinctly brighter (but no less deep) than that of Remus, here extended maturation in American oak serves to increase the difference between the wines but also completes the cycle of totally delicious flavours on the medium to full bodied palate. How do you choose between the two? The finesse and complexity of Remus or the supple generosity of Romulus? “
94 points Jeremy Pringle, Wine Will Eat Itself .. “Fleshy with a dam of fine tannin over which irrepressible flavour spills satsuma plums, toasted brown spice, redcurrant peaks and desiccated coconut, vanilla malt oak. Loaded with regional hospitality. Not a caricature though. Has vitality and avoids jammy ness while retaining power and opulence. “
94 points Gary Walsh The Wine Front “…Black fruit, roasted coconut, brown spices, dried mint, chocolate and earthy bass, full bodied, silky smooth and very persuasive, it positively glides through the mouth in its own velvet fog. Supple, balanced acidity and plenty of black fruit and salted beef through the long finish. Textbook. “
