Freya was the foremost legendary Goddess of ancient Germanic lands where the Riesling grape originated. This single vineyard wine honours early German settlers who cultivated the Riesling vine in the exemplary micro-climate of South Australia’s Eden Valley.
About the 2025 vintage from the winemaker: “The excitement was hard to contain when we first tasted the juice post-pressing in the winery. Delicate yet intensely aromatic, with flavours typical of great Eden Valley Rieslings, the juice was perfectly balanced by natural acidity and sugar levels in the right slot.
“Low yields combined with dry conditions through the growing season and up until harvest ensured intensely flavoured fruit was harvested in pristine condition. The typical warm days and cool nights in the final weeks prior to harvest ensured ample natural acidity was retained, critical to crafting well-balanced Rieslings.
“Hand-picked fruit from each block was chilled before whole-bunch pressing, with only the finest free-run juice retained. After an extended cool fermentation, the wine rested on its yeast lees for four months, building subtle palate texture and contributing to its overall balance.
“A lifted bouquet of fresh limes, elderflower and a touch of white spice. The palate is full flavoured with a balanced acidity, finishing with vibrancy and intensity. A delicious wine that will mature gracefully for many years to come.”
