Description
Rocky Gully Wines hail from the award winning Frankland Estate in Frankland River, the coolest and most isolated wine-growing region in Western Australia. Warm days, cool nights (maritime influenced by the proximity to the Great Southern Ocean – means milder summers and winters) optimum ripening conditions, sustainable organic practices and a pristine pollution free environment are all contributing factors to the fine wines it produces. Frankland Estate in 2010 were certified organic. They call the Rocky Gully wines their “second generation of Frankland Estate” and these are more than just a mere second label … same pristine quality of fruit and uncompromising quality at a bargain price.
“…It’s one of the best entry-level Rieslings I have encountered from anywhere, at a better price than all of them.” Phillip White, Drinkster blog
Fresh, pure and with generous Riesling flavour, it never fails to hit the spot. It shows abundant blossom and stone fruit, citrus and melon on the nose. Bath salt, talc and delicate spice undertones. A nicely weighted wine with a generosity of flavour and white stone fruit. Delicate and precise on the palate with generosity of fruit, persistent length of flavour and soft texture. 2025 sees a new label design!
94 points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front “Plenty of juicy flavour here and I’m thinking lime, green apple, a pinch of spice and some lavender and thyme perfume. I like the chalky and stony feel it has, there’s plenty of fresh lime juice acidity, with a finish of excellent length. No shortage of energy and focus, and it’s very good vintage for this wine – the best to date I’d say.”
93 points, Mike Bennie, Halliday Australian Wine Companion “A clean and clear whipcrack of a riesling that does great justice to the variety in a simple and very pleasing way. Lime, lemon curd, gingery spice, a big slosh of green apple and a core of briny minerality doing well here. Yes, thanks. Hugely refreshing, a little compact and puckering, too. Masters of this variety, the more or less entry-level offering here is an absolute ripper.”
92 points, Ken Gargett, Wine Pilot “The fruit for the Rocky Gully Riesling for this vintage, which comes with a new label, hails from a combination of young vines planted in the highest, rockiest ironstone pockets on the estate, which is situated in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, as well as the adjacent Justin’s Vineyard with its 45-year-old vines. Always delicious drinking and good value. The colour is a shimmering lemon. This is a gentle and slightly more forward style than is perhaps usual for the region, offering aromas of florals, jasmine, lemon sponge cake and herbs. There is a slight sour lemon/bitter almond touch on the finish. The wine is of medium length and will provide pleasure for the next four to six years.”
