Description

Bodega Chacra is internationally recognized as the pinnacle of South American Pinot Noir. Plantings from 1932, 1955 and 2002 are bio-dynamically farmed in the Rio Negro Valley of Northern Patagonia half way between the Andes and the Atlantic Ocean. The valley itself is a glacial bed 15 miles wide and 300 miles long along the rive bank at an elevation of 300 metres.

Established by Piero Incisa della Rochetta (the grandson of the family from Tenuta San Guido of Bolgheri fame in Italia that makes Sassicaia) who discovered these abandoned vineyards in 2004 offer a new expression of Pinot Noir.

Vineyards are tended using organic and biodynamic principles.Mostly from ungrafted vines that are 25 years old, along with fruit from the 1955 and 1932 vineyard. The old vines are planted on their own rootstocks producing tiny bunches with incredibly concentrated flavours. Hand harvested, wild yeasts, 60% fermented in concrete, transferred by gravity and treated in the gentlest way possible, no fining and filtration in order to produce transparent wines.

About this wine:  Mostly from ungrafted vines that are 25 years old, along with fruit from the 1955 and 1932 vineyard. 60% aged in concrete to keep fresh and crunchy.

The 2024 vintage was a year where a dry spring, frosts and winds resulted in reduced yields, leaving a small vintage of an insanely high quality.

94 points James SucklingPerfumed, with subtle cherry, cranberry and strawberry aromas and a hint of peaches. Medium-bodied with brightness and freshness. Vivid, lively, crunchy and fresh. Always excellent and super drinkable. Drink or hold?”
