Description

Father and son team Jean Hugues and Guilhem Goisot are fanatical about their certified biodynamic vineyards. Located in the Yonne region of France (a few kms south west of Chablis) their wines are everything you ‘d expect from a great Chablis for a fraction of the price. Leading authority on Burgundy. Allen Meadows of Burghound said “No one but no one delivers more quality for the price than Goisot. The quality is flat out amazing.. “

Chardonnay, single-vineyard.  At a bijou 1.2-hectares, La Gondonne lies on denser soils of blue clay, marl and limestone. Here the vines are a massale selection, a selection of cuttings taken from the Les Clos holdings of Raveneau and Dauvissat, families that have close ties with the Goisot clan (there is a pedigree to the quality on offer here).  In Gondonne, you find lots of exogyra virgula (small fossilised, limestone shells). It’s a superb site that typically produces the most intense of the three single-site Auxerre Chardonnays, yet as always, this is an intense expression leavened by uplifting tension.  The Goisot family think this is the closest Auxerre gets to the Le Clos grand cru, hence they took the cuttings from this famous Chablis site.  This is often richer and more powerful that the wines above and the 2013 is no exception. On our visit, the nose showed sunny, almost Macon-like, ripe stone fruits and nuts and yet the palate was really fine, deeply vinous yet racy, salty, fresh and long.  The density of the clays with the minerality of the limestone – welcome to Burgundy.

92 points, Neal Martin, eRobertParker.com #220  “The 2013 Bourgogne Côtes d’Auxerre Gondonne comes from vines on white/blue clay, at slightly higher altitude that Goisot’s other vineyards. It has a very harmonious, refined bouquet with hints of walnut and grilled almonds littered over the nose. The palate is very well balanced, perhaps texturally showing a little more oak than the Gueules de Loup, but there is a lovely dried honeyed note on the finish that is probably the result of the growing season rather than the terroir. Again, a terrific Chardonnay.”  Fabulous white Burgundy here .. wines age incredibly well too.. Very Limited
