“The champagnes of Pierre Gimonnet & Fils are intricately assembled by masterful hands exclusively from enviably positioned and painstakingly tended old vines. Every cuvée sings its aspiration of ‘precision, purity and minerality’, each speaking articulately of its place in the northern Côte des Blancs through expressive, chalky minerality, without one molecule of detail out of place. With high-strung tension, crystalline structure and rapier-sharp precision, these are blanc de blancs champagnes charged with an energy that will sustain them long indeed. They represent some of the best-value apéritif champagnes of all. ” The Champagne Guide 2016-2017, Tyson Stelzer www.tysonstelzer.com
“Didier Gimonnet is known for intensely bracing, invigorating Champagnes built on piercing acidity and salivating minerality, qualities that are enhanced through fermentation and aging exclusively in steel… when the wines are well-balanced, they are terrific. Readers will find a number of wines in this set of new releases that are gorgeous. One thing to note is that the reserve wines in the entry-level 1er Cru Cuis bottling are the NV blend of that year, which means those reserve wines are themselves blends of multiple vintages. Interestingly, the reserve wines are stored in magnum, which is a labor-intensive process, to say the least.” Antonio Galloni
About this wine from the winemakers: Lively, airy, salivating, technically perfect! This cuvee “Brut non-vintage Cuis 1er Cru” represents the archetype of the Pierre Gimonnet & Fils style. An introduction to our style, this is the Domaine’s priority cuvée.
In order to do this, during harvest, we separate all juice from different terroir in different tanks. After 6-8 months those wines are clear, we taste them and we blended wine of the year with reserve wines to repeat over the year the style we expect. To succeed with this delicate and fundamental step, the house of Pierre Gimonnet & Fils has chosen to keep all its reserve wines in bottles (on fine lees) and not in tanks or in casks. This method gives more freshness (less oxidation) and more mature (autolysis) in wines. This method is very rare in Champagne.
We are the only winemaker in Champagne to keep all our reserve wines in bottles, and has been since 1982.
100% Chardonnay in this fine Blanc de Blanc Champagne that delivers fine quality and value.
94 Points James Halliday’s Top 100 of 2020 “In these days of sharply rising prices, this family-run house offers great value thanks to its magnificent chardonnay vineyards. This is Gimmonet’s entry-point wine, the bouquet of white flowers/apple blossom, the palate with elegance and balance, fruit finish fresh thanks to the modest dosage of 5.5g/l”
91 Points, The Champagne Guide 2020-2021 “Didier Gimonnet’s aspiration for his entry non-vintage is a cuvée with attack on the front, roundness in the middle and crispness on the end. This cuvée is his first priority. ‘I can only produce other cuvées if I take what I need for the non-vintage first,’ he says. Gimonnet’s Cuis is the quintessential apéritif, and one of the most pristine champagnes for its price. The north-facing elegance of this bright premier cru infuses freshness and purity of lemon, grapefruit and crunchy nashi pear. The ripe and structured 2015 base adds a hint of pineapple core and lends its grip of phenolic mouthfeel, yet this has been well moderated by Gimonnet’s precision engineering, to let the fine salt chalk minerality of the village sing in harmony with crystalline acidity. Bottle age has built seamless texture without yet contributing secondary complexity, besides a fleeting glimpse of brioche. Dosage is well integrated with vibrant acidity, laying out a tense, bright and long finish. As ever, this is signature Cuis, classic Gimonnet and great value champagne.”
90 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous “... classic Gimonnet all the way. Green pear, lime, jasmine, crushed rocks and white pepper all race across the palate. there’s gorgeous tension and cut here. Readers should expect a salivating, taut style.” March 2024.
