Description
The Pichot family is one of the oldest grape growers in Vouvray, France going back to 1739. Their vineyard holdings are located mostly in the prime sites of Le Mont and Haut Lieu at the top of the village, with several other holdings scattered throughout the appellation. All harvesting is done by hand and yields are kept low at an average 25 hl/ha.
Domaine Pichot is an amalgamation of the properties of the father (Jean-Claude) ‘Coteau de la Biche’ and the son (Christophe) ‘Peu de la Moriette’, hence the different labels bearing the name Pichot.
Recently named by Revue de Vin de France (one of the most respected French wine critiques) as the top sparkling producer in Vouvray.
Comes primarily from vines located further behind the village from vineyards more suitable for sparkling wine. The cuvée is made in the méthode traditionnelle and is aged on its lees for typically two to three years, before disgorgement and re-corking with zero dosage, with each order being disgorged especially for us sur commande. The result is a very fresh and quite full bodied sparkling Vouvray, with a fine and lively mousse and a textbook Chenin Blanc flavour profile. It drinks very well as an aperitif and also throughout the meal, accommodating both lighter and richer courses.
A very fresh and richly complex sparkling Vouvray 100% chenin blanc (hand harvested) estate grown fruit, 3 years on lees. Very lively bubbles with ripe, intense concentration of apples, minerality and freshness in this fine French bubbly. Another good growing season in the Loire in 2021 which delivered beautiful quality and ripe fruit with fresh acidity. This is on song and one of the best quality vouvrays we have seen at this price.
New disgorgement … review for previous 92/100 Chris Kissack, thewinedoctor.com “.. The nose is smoky and fresh, with a dried-fruit richness and plenty of character. Fresh and lightly honeyed on the palate, with more dried-fruits substance. It is dry, with a fine mousse, and ultimately a very fresh, light but fine character…”
