Description
Sons of Eden co-owners, Corey Ryan (“cut his teeth” as winemaker at Henschke for 10 yrs) winemaker and Simon Cowham (ex-viticulturist Yalumba) have come up trumps again with this impressive new release – 2013 is blend of unique sites in Barossa of Seppeltsfield, Ebenezer and Moculta and Flaxman Valley of Eden Valley. The blend of cooler climate Eden Valley and warmer climate Barossa Valley Shiraz marry lifted aromatic characters and finer tannins with a powerful fleshy fruit core.
Seppeltsfield vineyard cops the cooling Westerly winds hence this wine is named after Zephyrus, Greek God of the West Wind. Shiraz (98%) with a touch of viognier, co-fermented has produced terrific results with plush fruit, fragrance, vibrancy, structure/ layers with great length of flavour. Decant this top shelf Shiraz Viognier or cellar.
93 points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front “Perfumed floral notes, dried herbs like sage and mint, mixed berries, spice and chocolate rolled in coconut – all that stuff, and a very come-hither style it is too. Medium to full bodied, slurpy and silky with brown spice, mixed berries and chocolate, though tannin beds it down very well and offers just the right amount of grip and texture – masterful tannin work here, really – juiciness and freshness on a pretty long and sweet/spicy finish. All these Sons of Eden wines share attributes of balance, and drinkability. The kitchen sink is never thrown in to impress you, then whack you over the head. Fine wines of regionality and charm.”
