“Young Philippe Collotte is one of several new stars of Marsannay“‘ Robert Parker Jr The Wine Advocate
“Philippe Collotte excels with a number of wines, his various Marsannay cuvées in particular. Marsannay is one of the best sources for affordable reds in the Côte de Nuits. Collotte’s wines are among the most distinctive of the appellation and are well worth checking out.” Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media
Marsannay is a relatively new Burgundy appellation (created in 1987) but an ancient and well respected source of fine wine. It is located south of Dijon at the northern end of the Côte de Nuits just a few villages past Gevrey-Chambertin. The producers of Marsannay have worked hard to establish its reputation after years of quasi-abandonment with remarkable results in the last 20 to 25 years. Even though there has been an influx of producers from Gevrey Chambertin and Vosne Romanee buying into and unlocking the potential of these wonderful terroirs there is still great value to be had in the wines of Marsannay.
Philippe Collotte has taken over the family holdings (one of the original old families of Marsannay) of fully mature vineyards in prime position above the village. He has also recently purchased some mature vineyards of 40 years age in both Gevrey Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny. In 2013 Philippe was joined by his daughter Isabelle, who had just completed her viticulture and oenology studies at the Lycée Viticole de Beaune. Whilst Isabelle focusses particularly on the production of the domaine’s white wines, there is no doubt that her addition to the team has helped refine the quality of the wines across the board.
This a source of very attractively priced red Burgundy from a young producer who is making great strides in the quality of wines produced.
Super smart offering considering challenges of growing season including hail, early cool ripening conditions followed thankfully by beautiful warm conditions for last 6 weeks to produce ripe, quality fruit balanced by good acidity.
From 50+ year-old vines located higher on the slope and based largely on the hard Comblanchien limestone. Concentration of fruit and complexity definitely points to ‘Les Boivins’ future 1er Cru status.
Super smart Pinot here ..high toned, generous and beautifully balanced wine, showing sumptuous fruit, structure and fine, silky tannins. Decant and treat yourself now with food. Cellar up to 8 years.
