Description
Domaine Chanson Père et Fils is one of the oldest of Beaune’s great negociant houses founded in 1750 and also one of the larger owners of Beaune premier cru vineyard. Since Bollinger took over in 1999 they have increased their own vineyard holdings to 45 hectares and given Chanson a much needed new lease of life led by winemaker Jean-Pierre Confuron (one of the most talented young burgundy winemakers who also runs family Domaine Confuron-Cotetidot ). In 10 years he has lifted quality significantly by introducing new vineyard practices reducing yields, new sorting tables to implement rigorous fruit selection, new temperature controlled vats to facilitate more small batch fermentation, forged new relationships with key growers.
“This beautiful house from Beaune founded in 1750 and owned by Bollinger since 1999 has now fully found its mark and style. It competes with the best thanks to their wines with clear and pure style, both white and red. A state of the art winery and the relevant advice of Jean-Pierre Confuron, in the vineyards as well as in the winery, explain the very clear expression across the wide range of Domaine wines.” REVUE DU VIN de FRANCE -Guide Edition 2012 (France’s leading wine magazine)

Fruit purchased from key growers on the slopes of Pommard, the most famous growth for Pinot Noir in the Côte de Beaune area. Soils were chalk mixed with silt and clay. An excellent vintage season: cold winter and perfect spring followed by a warm summer resulted in generous ripe and balanced fruit. Some whole bunch fermentation followed by 18 mths oak maturation ( 25-30% new) the wine has intense aroma of red berries and truffles, smoky notes and a hint of minerality. Complex and well-balanced, deep and dense, tight on first opening and silky with elegant tannins and a long, generous finish. Would recommend decanting this now and cellar this for 5 years. This is a bargain (as Burgundy prices continue to soar!) from the terrific 2009 vintage which are long gone in the market place… Have enjoyed 2 bottles late 2016 and this is drinking beautifully !
Roger Voss (Wine Enthusiast): “This shows the richness of the vintage in its ripe red fruits. It has weight as well as tannins, with a solid, firmly structured base of red plum fruit.”
