Poggio al Sole is located in the heart of Tuscany, surrounded by the beautiful landscapes between Florence and Siena, near the charming towns of Tavernelle and Greve in Chianti. The Davaz family’s grape-growing and winemaking tradition spans generations and includes an estate in Switzerland established in the early 1970s. Johannes and his wife Kathrin moved to Chianti in 1990, where they became pioneers of sustainable farming and organic winemaking.
Their 25 hectares of vineyards sit at elevations between 320 and 480 meters above sea level. Known for minimal intervention and low-yield practices in the Vineyard and Cellar, the estate focuses on traditional Sangiovese wines of high quality. The nearby Badia di Passignano Abbey even holds records of the Casasilia vineyard dating back to the 12th century.
This Chianti Classico is 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo. The wine opens with lovely aromas of sweet strawberries, hints of raspberries, and a subtle mineral touch. Medium-to-full body with fresh cherries on the palate and refined tannins that add softness and balance. Really well-balanced and vibrant for the rather warm vintage .
