Description
” The La Consulta and Altamira sub-regions of the Uco Valley are at the southern extreme of fine wine production in Mendoza, the southern locality and higher altitudes (1,150m) result in a cooler climate. We source our fruit from the same vineyard here, year in year out. In this part of Mendoza, Malbec shows attractive violet aromas, flavours and colours. The fruit for this particular wine comes from a section of the vineyard with older vines and chalky soils. The vine ages yields a dense and compact Malbec and the chalk in the soils here gives a savoury edge to the finished wine. Winemaking includes hand picking and hand sorting, cold soaking, a percentage of whole bunches during fermentation, warmer fermentation temperatures, extended maceration on skins and aging in French oak.” Notes from winemaker.
This flagship wine comprises handpicked fruit sourced from low yielding vines from the higher/cooler sights of Uco Valley in Mendoza, Argentina. Complex flavours, fine ripe tannins and beautifully balanced acidity. Rigorous fruit selection has contributed depth of fruit, minerality to this powerful full bodied red with rich dark berry fruit, tar, aniseed and hint of floral fragrance. Good concentration and length, fine grained tannins and beautifully integrated French oak. The end product is a serious, savoury, structural Malbec. This 2015 release has elegance, focus, layers of flavour, balance, lovely more-ish characters. Fire up the bbq and bring on the roast meat! 14.5% Alc. Stelvin
