Description
Founded in 1884 Bodegas Escorihuela is the oldest continuously operated winery in Mendoza. In the 1950s it gained fame and was much favoured by Juan and Evita Peron and was served at all state dinners. In 1993 it was taken over by the Catena family and other investors and has gone from strength to strength since then.
100% estate grown fruit from Agrelo at 950 metres in the foothills of the Andes and prime Uco Valley vineyards of Vistalba and Altamira (at 1000m & 1250 m respectively). Uco Valley is the premium wine growing region of Mendoza thanks to its altitude with cool nights, mornings and long warm days which is perfect for dark fruit flavours and the bright red fruit characters to both really come to the fore, creating a far more complex and elegant wine. 8 months maturation in 50% French & American oak. Very classy Malbec brimming with red and black fruits, balance and finesse… Evita would be bowled over by this release !
92 points, Tim Atkin MW “ … Escorihuela makes some impressive wines under it’s Gascon label. Winemaker Matias Cicciani’s Malbec is plush , Aromatic & alluring with scented violets, black plums & a patina of French & American Oak. Drink 2015-2019.”
