Description
Margaret River is Australia’s leading region for Cabernet Sauvignon thanks to the long ripening season and cool maritime climate. Dry grown low yielding cabernet sauvignon from their vineyard planted back in 1973. An extraordinary wine with intense black currant fruit, fine grained tannins with more-ish savoury tar and tobacco leaf depth. Recommend decanting this wine for at least an hour. This is what top shelf cabernet is all about. Love the elegance of this wine…and yes cellaring potential here.
Winemaker notes: “This has always been a single vineyard wine, but we have decided to emphasise this in the name. It’s made from our dry grown Wilyabrup Cabernet Sauvignon planted in 1973, picked in a number of small batches and carefully crafted to make the best Cabernet possible. Small quantities of other complementary varieties are trialled during the final blending to further add to the depth and complexity of the Cabernet Sauvignon. Elegant structure, complexity, depth.”
98 points, James Halliday’s 2020 Australian Wine Companion “This estate block was planted in ’73. The wine includes 5.5% petit verdot, 3.5% malbec and 3% merlot, all hand-picked, up to 36 days on skins, matured for 18 months in French barriques (50% new). An utterly exceptional cabernet, as intense as it is elegant with great mouthfeel ex superfine tannins. It’s the lightness and brightness that are the candles on the cake.”
