Description
Clos Clare is a boutique winery located in the famous Florita Vineyard of Watervale in the Clare Valley, owned and run by 3rd generation wine growers/makers Sam and Tom Barry. The Barry family bought this property in 1986 from Leo Buring in which the fruit from this vineyard went into making the benchmark Leonay wine. When the Warilto Homestead was sub divided including a small 45 year old 5 acre parcel of the vineyard to Ian Saunders, Clos Clare was born and is now proudly the wines of the Barry brothers.
About this wine from the winemaker: “As the third generation of the Barry winemaking family, we now hold the keys to this boutique winery. Riesling is the Clare Valley’s signature variety and this is our ninth vintage from clos Clare’s Riesling patch, adjoining the historic ‘Florita’ vineyard in Watervale.”
93 points, Mike Bennie for Halliday Wine Companion “A crisp and crackling riesling with just a touch of body, some quiet, nutty savoury elements, a good drive of citrusy freshness and tang. A bit of green herb and snow pea snap to the wine, too. It fits the varietal definitions; it provides freshness and feels well balanced in its elements. A little shrill twang through the finish is the only quibble. At the price, you should be happy with this.”
