Description
Geoff and Susan Bull were early viticultural pioneers on the East Coast of Tasmania, establishing Freycinet Vineyard in 1979. It is situated adjacent to the picturesque Freycinet Peninsula, (latitude 42 degrees), which is named in honour of the French explorer Louis de Freycinet, who chartered the region in 1802. The 15 hectare vineyard is proudly family owned and the wines are 100% grown, produced and bottled on our estate. The site is a warm sheltered one within the truly cool Tasmanian climate. The vineyards are meticulously hand tended to grow moderate yields of fully ripe healthy fruit. The rustic winery houses ‘state of the art’ equipment to ensure wine quality is not lost. The wines are produced with great care, dedication and passion – they are a delicious liquid expression of our unique place on earth, the varieties and the season.
About this wine from the winemakers “Named after the iconic Wineglass Bay on the Freycinet Peninsula, this wine comes from meticulously tended 38-year-old vines, all hand pruned and hand-harvested. Moderate yields of healthy fruit are grown to achieve full ripeness, with the cool climate allowing a long, slow season that builds intensity of aroma, flavour and natural acidity. In the winery, gentle handling and cool, slow fermentation preserve fruit purity and freshness.
“To add texture and complexity, 70% of the wine was fermented and matured in seasoned French barriques, with a touch of new oak providing subtle structure and length, enhancing the wine without overt oak characters.
2025 vintage … “The vines began spring with a strong start after a typical winter of average temperatures and rainfall. Spring rainfall reached only 70% of the norm, though slightly warmer conditions prevailed. The warmth carried into summer, supported by well-timed rain. By the harvest months of March and April, rainfall had dropped to 60% of average and the season turned noticeably drier. The consistently warm weather promoted even ripening, while excellent flowering earlier in the season led to higher-than-usual yields. Overall, the season produced well-balanced fruit of outstanding quality.
“The wine is lively and exuberant featuring vibrant gooseberry, citrus and passionfruit aromas. The generous palate is awash with an array of tropical fruits, ruby grapefruit and soft herbs and offers a creamy smooth mid-palate with subtle layers of complexity and impressive length. A crowd-pleasing style which can be enjoyed with or without food. Delicious with seafood of all kinds and lighter dishes. Wineglass Bay Sauvignon Blanc has been consistently recognised for its high quality, winning several awards. 14.2% ALC.
TROPHY – 2026 Tasmanian Wine Show, Best Sauvignon Blanc
92 points, Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion “Bright and lifted with aromas of gooseberry, passionfruit and citrus with hints of crushed stone, a whiff of flint, white flowers and sea spray. Crisp and mouth-filling, with light clotted-cream tones and soft spice. The flavours swell on the mid-palate before focusing with a minerally cadence.”
