Description
Singlefile are a boutique, family run winery dedicated to making single vineyard wines from select sites in the Great Southern of Western Australia. Their name pays homage to the geese who waddle in single file around the estate and the Latin on their crest translates to the pursuit of excellence – a principle they try and live by every day.
“In 1986 geologists Phil and Viv Snowden moved from South Africa to Perth, where they developed their their successful multinational mining and resource services company, Snowden Resources. Following the sale of the company in 2004, they decided to turn their attention to their long-held desire to make and enjoy fine wine. Their research of the principal wine regions of Australia confirmed their desire to settle where cool-climate wines of outstanding quality could be produced. In 07 they bought an established vineyard (planted in 89) in the beautiful Denmark subregion. They pulled out the old shiraz and merlot vines, kept and planted more chardonnay, and retained Larry Cherubino to set up partnerships with established vineyards in Frankland River, Porongurup, Denmark, Pemberton and Margaret River to make the rest of the wines in the distinguished Singlefile portfolio. Singlefile’s Great Southern collection is made from the best regional parcels from Porongurup, Denmark and Frankland River.
About this wine from the winemaker: “The 2022 growing season delivered ideal conditions for growing premium riesling in the Great Southern region. There was good rainfall over winter. Spring was reasonably dry and summer held slightly cooler temperatures which allowed for the ideal lemon and lime riesling flavours to develop while, importantly, the fruit retained a beautiful natural acidity which forms the backbone of this wine.
The parcels of fruit were brought into the winery, the free run juice undergoing a long and slow cold fermentation in stainless steel immediately after the pressing. This ensures the pristine floral and citrus fruit characters are preserved. The wine underwent very gentle lees stirring to add subtle texture before preparation for bottling. The wine was bottled in June 2022.
The colour is light with a green tinge, the aromatics display classic Great Southern riesling characters of apple blossom, citrus and lime tones. The palate shows a dry styled riesling with subtle mineral undertones and a tight acid-driven crisp finish. The lees work adds a softly textured mouthfeel ensuring this wine is well suited to foods such as seafoods. It is anticipated in time this wine will evolve to display a stone-line minerality and poached citrus richness, while retaining its linear acidity.” Fabulous succulence and pedigree here.
