Description
Award winning Frankland Estate is located in Frankland River, the coolest and most isolated wine-growing region in Western Australia. Warm days, cool nights (maritime influenced by the proximity to the Great Southern Ocean – means milder summers and winters) optimum ripening conditions, sustainable organic practices and a pristine pollution free environment are all contributing factors to the fine wines it produces.
The Frankland Estate Isolation Ridge Vineyard Riesling is consistently ranked among the best in Australia and has won widespread critical acclaim.
From the winemakers about this wine: “This wine was made from 100% Riesling grown in the Isolation Ridge vineyard at Frankland Estate. Riesling vines from two different clones were planted in 1988 on undulating northern and eastern facing slopes with duplex soils of ironstone gravel over a clay sub-soil. Several trellis systems are used throughout the vineyard, which is situated 256 meters above sea level. The cool nights and long slow ripening periods typical of the Frankland River region allow maximum flavour development while maintaining the distinctive vibrant acidity for which Rieslings from this region are renowned.”
About the 2025 vintage “The 2025 vintage was defined by dry conditions from early September through to harvest in early March. An early budburst followed a drier-than-normal end to winter and spring, setting the stage for an early harvest, despite the season being considerably cooler than 2024. Low yields resulted in fruit of impressive concentration and intensity. Harvest took place between 2 and 10 March, with fruit picked in the cool of the early morning to retain freshness and precision.
“Fermentation was carried out in numerous small batches, primarily in stainless steel, with an increasing emphasis on spontaneous fermentation and select barrel ferments, many not exceeding 1,000 litres. Approximately 5% of the wine was matured in barrel from the Outback and North Pole blocks to enhance texture and highlight the variety’s flinty ironstone character. Grapes were picked slightly riper than in previous decades to achieve a more resolved, integrated acid profile. The diversity of ferments contributes depth and complexity, while reduced yields in 2025 resulted in a total production approximately 25% lower than average.
“A complex and expressive nose of white citrus blossom, tangerine, spice and wet ironstone minerality. The palate is zesty and tightly coiled, showing crystalline purity and a precise saline line of acidity shaped by the drier-than-normal season. Medium-bodied yet deceptively powerful, the wine carries an edgy, stony drive with subtle skinsy bitterness, notes of lime, mandarin and tonic, and a long, textured finish touched by fresh herbs. Restrained, poised and beautifully balanced, this Riesling has the depth and tension to ageeffortlessly for at least 15 years.
97 points, Jane Faulkner “You’d call this pristine. Beautiful, too. It’s everything you want in a riesling from this top producer, with fruit off its organically managed, exceptional vineyard. Delicate aromas of lemon blossom, quince and ginger flower with a more complex oyster shell character. Pure flavours of citrus, glacé lemon and a touch of phenolics and silky creaminess all cruising along the palate. There’s balance between texture and the vibrancy of superfine acidity. A slip of sweetness rounds out this superb wine.
95 points, Ray Jordan, Wine Pilot “Consistently one of the finest Rieslings produced in Western Australia. This one is from a year that created wines of some delicacy and restraint, and yet this one delivers on that base but with deep intensity. The nose shows a distinctive minerality with faint hints of lemon rind. The palate is delightfully presented with fine fruit flavours supported by a racy acidity and that underlying minerality which stamps the regionality. A thoroughly appealing expression of Frankland River Riesling.”
96 points, Cyndal Petty, Wine Pilot “I’m arriving at the conclusion, after years of drinking Frankland Estate Riesling, that they simply can’t make a bad wine. Maybe it’s Brian Kent. Maybe it’s the holistic viticulture. Maybe it’s the family lineage. Whatever the reason, the 2025 Isolation Ridge only strengthens the argument. A powerful base note of candied cumquat, pickled radish and lime sherbet sits at the core. Everything feels ripe, sticky and pure. There’s a notable musk-stick floral character here too, dialled up more than in previous vintages. In the mouth, the fruit is always front of mind, but the grabby phenolics are equally enticing, locking in the resolved acid and allowing it to operate at maximum volume without overpowering. An iconic and singular wine. Drink as is.
95 points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front “Lime, crisp green apple, a vanilla/white flower perfume, slight aniseed, spice, and a general chalky/stony thing happening. It’s tight, but flavoursome, a powdery grip to texture, a sizzle of green apple acidity through lime rind and white nectarine, tight and zesty on a finish of outstanding length, a little apple skin and citrus peel cinch to close. Such crunch and energy. Very good.”
