The Other Wine Co Pinot Gris 2020

The Other Wine Co. wines are entirely vinified and bottled by legendary winemakers Shaw + Smith in the Adelaide Hills. The wines are “other” partly because they give the winemakers a chance to lay with varieties and regions that don’t fit into Shaw + Smith. They are also an “other” perspective from so many wines that favour over-ripeness and oak instead of freshness and balance, and power over drinkability. These are made to drink and enjoy. That’s it!

From Winemaker Adam Wadewitz .. “When we started thinking about The Other Wine Co. it was about the sort of wines that we like to drink when we’re out ordering a glass. One of the things you want is the right variety in the right place, first of all to tick that box, and the next is all about drinkability, about having something that’s really delicious and  something that’s not going to be dominated by oak or alcohol or extraction.”

Taking the evolution of The Other Wine Co. Pinot Gris to the next level – this Adelaide Hills pinot gris is all about freshness, spice and texture.

2020 – Low yields and handpicked fruit. Cool fermentation in stainless steel is followed by four months on lees.

The young winemaking team at Shaw + Smith pushes the boundaries of this variety and its interplay with oak. Fermented on full solids, partly in new oak foudres and partly in steel; then matured on its lees in old oak barriques where it develops concentration, textured layers and drive through the palate. Bottled on site at Balhannah after three months in barrel.

Juicy, spicy and textured. Strong pear, citrus blossom and apple characters with honeysuckle, as well as spice notes. Packed with ripe apple and pear. Fleshy and textural with great density of flavour and acid balance as well as grainy pear skin phenolics .Alcohol 13.0% Delicious is this!
