The Other Wine Co. wines are entirely vinified and bottled by legendary winemakers Shaw + Smith in the Adelaide Hills. The wines are “other” partly because they give the winemakers a chance to lay with varieties and regions that don’t fit into Shaw + Smith. They are also an “other” perspective from so many wines that favour over-ripeness and oak instead of freshness and balance, and power over drinkability. These are made to drink and enjoy. That’s it!
From Winemaker Adam Wadewitz .. “When we started thinking about The Other Wine Co. it was about the sort of wines that we like to drink when we’re out ordering a glass. One of the things you want is the right variety in the right place, first of all to tick that box, and the next is all about drinkability, about having something that’s really delicious and something that’s not going to be dominated by oak or alcohol or extraction.”
About this wine from the winemakers: “The second release Sangiovese, from the cool climate vineyards of Mount Lofty Ranges. This wine screams Other Wine Co. – a vivacious, bright, early drinking red, with wild strawberry, juicy blue fruits and bright florals. There’s perfume, bay leaf and spice, with firm tannins and fresh acidity.”
92 points, Mike Bennie, Halliday Wine Companion “Aged in larger oak barrels. This works well. It has grip and minerality, bright red berry fruitiness, peppery spice notes, a bit of ferrous earthiness and sits at just on medium weight. It feels like sangiovese from the dictionary should – leans into its more refreshing side and delivers on that promise for those seeking vibrant reds. Easy to like.”
92 points, Shanteh Wale, Wine Pilot “Another bouncy and fruity wine with some extract and punchy cordial like notes. Red toffee apple, raspberries and cherry syrup. Tannins are very powdery, they almost stick to the tongue and acidity is high and mighty. The friendly nature of potent fruit, means this is a Sangiovese that won’t scare anyone away but more draw you in with enticing fruit and before long you’ll be seeking out the wines with firmer structure. For that I really commend it. A wonderful wine for paprika based spicy cured meats.”
