Description
About this vintage from the winemaker: “The fruit for this wine came from our ‘Estate’ vineyard, and our Callanan’s Road vineyard. The fruit was handpicked, whole bunch pressed, and the unclarified juice was fermented in French oak puncheons (35% new). Initially it was stirred monthly in barrel, to build weight and complexity. It did not go through malolactic fermentation.
2021 was a cool year with low yields, with high natural acidity giving terrific ageing potential. Expressive aromas of lemon sherbet, white peach, and hints of struck match, lead onto a racy palate. Vibrant fruit flavours are framed with crisp acidity which gives the wine a long, linear finish.”
This new release is a fabulous example of Mornington Chardonnay at its finest.. good palate weight, fine natural acid and excellent length.
93 points, Jane Faulkner, 2023 Halliday Australian Wine Companion “A solid go-to wine that offers good drinking without any fuss. Lots of upfront stone fruit and lemon, grilled nuts and creaminess throughout via barrel fermentation and lees stirring. It’s nicely weighted – not too big, not too tight, just right – thanks to a fine line of acidity keeping everything in check.”
93 points, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front “It brings flavour and it brings zip. Yellow peach and sweet pear flavours with cedarwood, toast and spice notes, all teaming to positive effect. Everything in its right place, everything in good order. Floral and indeed woodsy spice notes hover attractively about the edges. Lovely. The finish is convincing too.”
