Description
Domaine Séguinot-Bordet dates from 1590 and is now managed by the young Jean-François Bordet who has recently taken over from his grandfather Roger Séguinot. Most of the 16 hectares of vineyards are located on the right bank of the Serein river benefiting from a perfect south / south-east exposition. Jean-François Bordet practises coolish fermentation and allows his wines to mature for 3-5 months on their lees; this maximises the contact and promotes a luscious style to the wines. His approach is clearly contemporary, but it delivers very stylish wines which fully express both the fruit and terroir. Made in a brand new wine cellar, the wines are fermented and aged in horizontal temperature-controlled tanks (imagine a normal wine tank laying on its side) to maximise lees contact.
“Our winery is right on the river Serein, the lifeline of Chablis. Some of our 100-year-old vines (vieilles vignes in French) were planted by my grandfather when he was young. It has been like this for 13 generations since 1590. That makes us one of the oldest wine families in Chablis.” Winemaker Jean-François Bordet
About this wine: 100% chardonnay from 40 to 65 year old vines, grown in ancient Kimmeridgian limestone soil and aged in temperature-controlled tanks.
Very pretty pale golden yellow in colour with light greenish glints. Bright, luminous and limpid… The nose is like a ray of sunshine with a multitude of summer scents. The taste is a perfect balance of class and elegance, vivacity and mellowness. The finish – this is never -ending-, smooth and silky, harmonious and nimble.
91-94 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, Aug 2023 “This classy effort is a wine of finesse. Moderate wood frames a vague whiff of the exotic on the aromas of white peach, apricot, spice and good if not special Chablis typicity. There is both fine underlying tension and a subtle bead of minerality on the beautifully textured flavors that terminate in a dry, citrusy and balanced finale. Drink: 2029+”
