Description

Domaine Séguinot-Bordet dates from 1590 and is now managed by the young Jean-François Bordet who has recently taken over from his grandfather Roger Séguinot. Most of the 16 hectares of vineyards are located on the right bank of the Serein river benefiting from a perfect south / south-east exposition. Jean-François Bordet practises coolish fermentation and allows his wines to mature for 3-5 months on their lees; this maximises the contact and promotes a luscious style to the wines. His approach is clearly contemporary, but it delivers very stylish wines which fully express both the fruit and terroir. Made in a brand new wine cellar, the wines are fermented and aged in horizontal temperature-controlled tanks (imagine a normal wine tank laying on its side) to maximise lees contact.

“Our winery is right on the river Serein, the lifeline of Chablis. Some of our 100-year-old vines (vieilles vignes in French) were planted by my grandfather when he was young. It has been like this for 13 generations since 1590. That makes us one of the oldest wine families in Chablis.”  Winemaker Jean-François Bordet

About this wine:  100% chardonnay from 25 to 40 year old vines, grown in ancient Kimmeridgian limestone soil and aged in temperature-controlled tanks.

Very pretty pale golden yellow in colour with light greenish glints. Bright, luminous and limpid. The noze is reminiscent of the scented freshness of a lovely summer’s morning. The taste is perfect harmony of maturity, mellowness and vivacity. The flowers and fruit reappear, enhanced by charming biscuity notes. The mineral touch, fine and airy, shows through well on the finish to accompany our thirst and pleasure right to the end.

89-91 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, Oct 2024Here there is more evident Chablis typicity to the aromas of Granny Smith apple, lemon confit and plenty of iodine character. In the same fashion, there is slightly more volume and richness to the medium-bodied flavors that are underpinned by both minerality and an attractive tension, all wrapped in a chalky, saline and sneaky long finish. This is also very good for its level and worth checking out. Drink: 2028+”
