Description
Domaine Séguinot-Bordet dates from 1590 and is now managed by the young Jean-François Bordet who has recently taken over from his grandfather Roger Séguinot. Most of the 16 hectares of vineyards are located on the right bank of the Serein river benefiting from a perfect south / south-east exposition. Jean-François Bordet practises coolish fermentation and allows his wines to mature for 3-5 months on their lees; this maximises the contact and promotes a luscious style to the wines. His approach is clearly contemporary, but it delivers very stylish wines which fully express both the fruit and terroir. Made in a brand new wine cellar, the wines are fermented and aged in horizontal temperature-controlled tanks (imagine a normal wine tank laying on its side) to maximise lees contact.
“Our winery is right on the river Serein, the lifeline of Chablis. Some of our 100-year-old vines (vieilles vignes in French) were planted by my grandfather when he was young. It has been like this for 13 generations since 1590. That makes us one of the oldest wine families in Chablis.” Winemaker Jean-François Bordet
About this wine: 100% chardonnay from 40 to 60 year old vines, grown in ancient Kimmeridgian limestone soil and aged in temperature-controlled tanks.
Very pretty pale golden yellow in colour with light greenish glints. Bright, luminous and limpid. The noze is an explosion of fine fresh notes, of elegant white flowers, fresh brioche and leafy tenderness. The taste reveals instantly all its power, richness and elegance-perfect balance of finess, mineral, mellowness and vivacity. It generously offers us a full spectrum of aromas. The finish just goes on and on, never to the forgotten.
91-93 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, Oct 2024 “The best of Chablis wine & always highly-rated for any vintage. An attractively layered nose features airy and cool notes of mint, quinine, lemon rind and brine flirts with a background application of oak. The more elegant middle weight flavors are akin to rolling a tiny pebble around the mouth while the balanced, clean and dry finale already possesses fine complexity and length. This is also very good and equally warmly recommended.”
