Description
Tim Smith is an extraordinarily talented Barossa winemaker. He draws inspiration from the Southern Rhone appellation and is a huge fan of wines of Bandol. He seeks out old vine Mataro. Grenache and shiraz from his Barossa growers and crafts “Rhone Style ” reds with fragrance. elegance and power.
He sourced his shiraz grapes from about 6 Barossa vineyard sites including Eden Valley, Tanunda, Seppeltsfield, Nuriootpa, Kalimna and Light Pass. Vine age is +110 years of age for the oldest parcel, with the younger parcel being about 20 years of age. His approach to making Shiraz is to firstly to highlight regionality. The myriad of individual vineyard sites in the Barossa is reflected in this gorgeous shiraz with over a dozen distinct villages. numerous soils. and a range in elevation to achieve this. French oak maturation is his preference. 2015 was an exceptional vintage in the Barossa so beautiful ripe balanced fruit was picked. This is seriously impressive shiraz (we love the power and elegance) with pedigree in spades for a ridiculously modest price!
93 points Gary Walsh of Wine Front … “Blackberry, clove, sage, sweet earthiness and liquorice. Full bodied, but kind of lithe too, silky, toasty, savoury and sage-laced, mixed berries, firm acidity and insistent length. It’s a very good example of ‘classic’ Barossa Valley Shiraz.”
96 points, James Halliday for 2014 vintage.
