Description

This is a terrific full bodied expression of Barossa shiraz (all Ebenezer- northern Barossa fruit from the Riebke brothers vineyard) – it’s brimming with ripe flavour yet balanced by refreshing acidity. Again a bargain for quality and value!

About this wine by winemaker Kim Teusner “The Riebke family grow outstanding quality fruit on old, low yielding Barossa Valley vines…something they’ve been doing for six generations. For their faith in what we do and their assistance in the birth and growth of Teusner Wines, we’ll be forever thankful. The soils on which the Riebke vineyards are planted are predominantly composed of ancient, weathered material, typically rich in clay, loam and ironstone. These diverse soil components contribute to the vineyard’s unique terroir and are ideal for cultivating premium quality Shiraz grapes. Due to their slight elevation, sitting approx. 280m above sea level, the Riebke vineyards ripen later than most in the Barossa Valley which contributes to the fine and elegant characters typical in the wines produced.

“A cooler contrast to the previous couple seasons, 2022 gave us a long, gentle run into harvest with very little extreme heat. The result was beautifully even ripening, allowing flavours to build steadily while retaining freshness and vitality. Across the Barossa the wines show wonderful colour, energy and details, with finely textured tannins and bright aromatics that should see them age gracefully for many years to come. Fermented cool and pumped over by hand in a range of open fermenters, the wine is then matured in seasoned French oak Hogsheads for 12 months prior to blending.

“This is classic Riebke. Loads of satsuma plum, blackberry and dark cherry leap from the glass, backed by hints of spice and that subtle ferrous, ironstone character that seems to come naturally from these old Ebenezer soils. Twelve months in seasoned French oak hogsheads adds texture without getting in the way, leaving the rich black and blue fruits to do all the heavy lifting. Plush, generous and dangerously easy to drink, it’s a proper Barossa Shiraz with enough polish to keep you coming back for another glass. Great fruit, great growers and another cracking release from the Riebke family vineyards.”

90 points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front“It’s a soft and pleasing expression of Barossa Shiraz showing a little extra complexity by way of bottle age. A mix of plum, cherry and blackberry, some mint and cocoa, a little cedar and spiced oak, acidity is balanced, tannin is a little bit grainy, and it finishes with good length and salted plum. No complaints here. Plump and affable. Easy to drink.”
