Kilikanoon, established in 1997 by Kevin Mitchell, with grapes from two vineyards owned by Kevin and his father Mort, specialises in producing wines with strong regional and varietal definition.
In its relatively short history Kilikanoon has won a large number of Australian and International awards and received high praise from the world’s most respected wine writers. The 2002 Clare Valley Wine Show really put Kilikanoon on the map, when they took home six of the seven trophies. Since that time the winery has gone from strength to strength taking home a number of awards including the San Francisco International Wine Competitions, Best of Nation Trophy (2010), and receiving comments such as “This is one of the most brilliantly run wineries in Australia” from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. In 2013 they were awarded Winery of the Year by James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion.

Mr Killerman, as winemaker Mort Mitchell called him when he was young, lived alone in a humble tin shed in the hills behind the Kilikanoon Cellar Door. Entirely self-sufficient, he grew his own fruit and vegetables and roamed the valley for his meals with rabbits being his favourite gourmet treat.
Mort grew to know and respect this man of the bush, learning the secrets of the land and how to become one with the environment. The Killerman’s Run range of approachable wines showcases the distinguished and varied terroir of the Clare Valley and the Kilikanoon philosophy of uncompromised quality and consistency.
“Our Killerman’s Run Shiraz has been crafted through careful fruit selection, traditional winemaking techniques, sixteen months maturation in new seasoned French oak hogsheads and bottling unfiltered to fully enhance the wines character and appeal. 2015 was an excellent vintage overall. ”
This blend of Clare and Barossa fruit from premium low yielding vineyards from an excellent vintage in 2015 … made in a rich and ripe style, has plenty of dark fruits, blood plums, spice and balanced oak in this juicy red. Fine tannins and subtle French oak char rounding out the long expressive finish. Packs way above its weight! Perfect drinking now but will go the distance for another 10 – 12 years! Bargain!
