The wines of Clare Wine Co are all about regionality and pure flavours – the taste of Clare. Clare Wine Co was established in 2008 by premium Barossa producer Kaesler Wines. Winemakers from Kaesler, Stephen Dew and Reid Bosward are responsible for producing the wines under the Clare Wine Co brand. Varieties focused on are riesling, shiraz and cab sauvignon. The vineyards were carefully selected due to their unique soil formations and the micro climates found in the respective vineyards.
Riesling excels in Watervale and the Shiraz and Cabernet from Polish Hill represent some of the finest fruit found in the region. The oldest vines are 43 years old.
We love this rich ripe expression of shiraz. 100% estate grown shiraz from Polish Hill vineyard. Polish Hill vineyard is a 30 acre (12ha) block with 10 acres of Cab Sav and 20 acres of Shiraz planted in 1999. 2016 growing season was favourable with reduced yields but fruit of excellent quality resulting in intense full flavoured fruit retaining wonderful natural acidity with minimal intervention winemaking to capture the essence of Polish Hill River followed by maturation in second use oak. This impressive expression of Clare Shiraz is deliciously medium to full bodied and overflows with rich dark plummy fruit, a lick of dark chocolate balanced by bright acidity and fine grained tannins. Quality fruit on show here from Polish Hill .. A very good growing season in the Clare – warm and dry season has produced a classic drop which will benefit from a bit of air upon opening to really open up. Will cellar well for another 5 years.
This is dangerously drinkable and a winner for quality and value. Enjoy this!
