Description

Ten Minutes by Tractor’s first labelled vintage took place in 2000, a partnership of 3 family owned vineyards coming together to produce wine for the first time under one label. Martin and Karen Spedding purchased the company in 2004 retaining the personal and commercial relationships with the founding growers of which you can find their names immortalised on some of the single vineyard bottlings each year.

Fast forward to current day and Ten Minutes by Tractor has solidified themselves amongst some of the most sought after producers of the Mornington Peninsula along with arguably some of the best single vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir bottlings in Australia.

The epicentre of the winery’s history is firmly rooted in the subregion of Main Ridge, where several of their single vineyard wines are sourced from alongside owned and leased vineyards around Hastings + Merricks.

The Coolart Road vineyard is the warmest site of the Ten Minutes by Tractor single vineyard wines, regularly ripening up to 4 weeks earlier than Judd and McCutcheon up in Main Ridge. Planted in 2000. 100% Pinot Noir. The combination of the warmer microclimate and deeper soils further down the hill gives this wine it’s signature dark cherry fruit and exotic spice tones.

This Pinot Noir is always a careful selection from what they consider are the best blocks in the Coolart Road vineyard. The 2023 vintage saw the team bottle 3 single block expressions bottled instead of the Coolart road blend, D block, E Block and F Block, all exhibiting a unique expression of this special site.

About this wine from the winemakers: “Sitting at the top of the eastern facing slope on our Coolart Road vineyard, ‘F block’ is typically finer and more floral than any other block on Coolart.

“2023 vintage – Higher than average rainfall during flowering and over the course of the season resulted in lower yields on all sites. Flavour and sugar development were prolonged, resulting in more hang time, good intensity, and drive.  F Block comprises of clones:  MV6 (60%), 777 (20%), 115 (20%).

“Handpicked, hand sorted and destemmed, this fruit was fermented in 1 ton stainless steel fermenters. A cold soak for 4-5 days before wild yeast fermentation with an average of 14 days on skins. The wine was then pressed to tank and racked to barrel keeping the two individual parcels separate, where they underwent natural malolactic fermentation. Aged in a combination of old and new barriques.

“This wine opens with ethereal floral notes that dance above a core of black cherry and sweet licorice. The palate displays remarkable precision, where vibrant fruit energy meets fine-grained tannins, creating a harmonious interplay of power and grace.”

18/20 pts – Tamlyn Currin – Jancis RobinsonSo peppery and so floral – almost floating above the glass when you smell it and yet stunning intensity on the palate. Membrillo, strawberry leather, Sichuan pepper and five spice. A whisper of petrichor – the scent of rain on the wind. Ballet-slipper tannins. Strength and grace. Both grounded and soaring. The soprano of the Coolart Road Block wines. Spine-tingling. Liquid Maria Callas. 2025 – 2040.”
