“A powerful pinot noir with real presence and persistence. Remarkable wine that punches well above its price level.” – Huon Hooke – The Real Review
Ten Minutes by Tractor’s first labelled vintage took place in 2000, a partnership of 3 family owned vineyards coming together to produce wine for the first time under one label. Martin and Karen Spedding purchased the company in 2004 retaining the personal and commercial relationships with the founding growers of which you can find their names immortalised on some of the single vineyard bottlings each year.
Fast forward to current day and Ten Minutes by Tractor has solidified themselves amongst some of the most sought after producers of the Mornington Peninsula along with arguably some of the best single vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir bottlings in Australia.
The epicentre of the winery’s history is firmly rooted in the subregion of Main Ridge, where several of their single vineyard wines are sourced from alongside owned and leased vineyards around Hastings + Merricks.
10X wines are sourced from several vineyards on the Mornington Peninsula and are therefore a regional expression of each variety. All of our fruit is Estate grown and managed.
Affordable yet premium-quality Pinot Noir from Mornington? I know, it doesn’t seem to add up. But Martin Spedding’s dedication to crafting the 10X range with the same care and attention as his Estate and Single Vineyard wines speaks to his commitment to precision in everything he does at Ten Minutes by Tractor.
The majority of this wine comes from the family-owned Coolart Road vineyard, located “Down the Hill” from the winery in Red Hill. This site, with its higher clay content, imparts a unique style to the wine. Additional fruit is sourced from the Hunts Road, Capella, Wallis, and Paradigm Hill vineyards, with a small addition from McCutcheon—one of the estate’s other single-vineyard bottlings.
The fruit is hand-sorted, with most of it destemmed. Some higher-elevation sites, like McCutcheon, include a touch of whole-bunch fermentation, adding just a subtle layer of complexity rather than being a central feature of the 10X style. Clones: MV6, Pommard, G5V15, 115, 777, Abel, D2V5, D5V12.
The resulting wine has incredible complexity and generosity on the palate. Fruit as always was hand picked, fortunately the 2025 vintage provided ample fruit and quality was incredibly high allowing the winery team to process only the finest bunches.
The wine undergoes a 4-day cold soak before fermentation, which takes place in a mix of concrete (the winery uses a significant percentage of small to medium-sized open-top concrete fermenters) and stainless steel. It is aged in French barriques and puncheons for 5 months, with 15% of the barrels being new.
From the winemakers about this wine: “The 2025 vintage was magnificent. Moderate warm days, cool nights and dry conditions throughout the summer and autumn provided ideal ripening conditions. Healthy and balanced canopies across all sites produced wonderful flavours and acidity and excellent fruit quality.
“Ruby red shades, earthy undertones and spice are beautifully intertwined with bursts of sweet perfume, providing a wonderful welcome to this wine. On the palate, it begins with raspberry and leathery notes that gracefully move towards a darker spectrum of black cherry as the wine glides and lingers. Tannins are fine and resolved, giving structure and depth, but it is the intense fruit profile that champions this wine, delivering on all levels from start to finish. Drink now and over the next 10 years.”
After some challenging vintages, this brand new 2025 release is on song and we expect the critics to rave! Reviews for 2024 .. 94 pts – Huon Hooke – The Real Review “Deep, bright red with a good tint of purple, the bouquet starts with smoky/meaty charcuterie reductive characters, rich ripple black cherry underneath; the palate full and rich with good concentration, extract and persuasive tannins that supply an excellent backbone of structure. A powerful pinot noir with real presence and persistence. Remarkable wine that punches well above its price level.”
