Description

5 Star Winery James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion

“A paradigm shift for Ruth and George Mihaly saw us surrender our established careers in food for Ruth and medical research for George to viticulture and winemaking respectively. We have always been passionate about food and wine and our obsessive pursuit of quality and commitment to ecologically responsible practices led us to establish our ideal and environmentally sustainable vineyard/home site on the Mornington Peninsula. The overriding focus is on achieving balanced healthy vines producing carefully selected, exceptional & low yielding fruit. We therefore have only estate grown wines – showing elegance and intensity – but always a purity of varietal expression for each wine – Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir & Shiraz….. The journey continues….” Winery notes.

Single vineyard L’ami sage (meaning “The Wise Friend”) has more palate intensity with enticing, darker red fruit aromas followed by the expected savoury, fleshy and earthy character.  Always showing a bit more assertiveness on the palate with a tad more richness than their other single vineyard Pinot Les Cinqyet, exhibiting both subtlety and power. The fine, abundant tannin structure builds on the palate and there is generosity, together with a long complex and balanced fresh finish.

Super impressive single vineyard Pinot from this leading Mornington grower on Merricks Road. George and Ruth Mihaly are tirelessly dedicated to producing some of this country’s finest Pinot Noir.

This 2018 is outstanding following a dream growing season and after a couple of years in bottle the structured tannins are softening to reveal fragrant, brimming red and black fruits.

94 points, Jenni Port for James Halliday Wine Companion 2021 “.. On the leafier, taut side of the pinot equation with cranberry, barely ripe red fruits, dusty beets. Not generous on the palate, at least not yet, highly structured with drying tannins and a smack of tart acidity to close.”
