Description
Founded in 1879 Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine is run by fifth generation winemaker Christine Dubreuil. It is located on the hillside of the historic town of Pernand Vergelesses close to the famed hill of Corton-Charlemagne. The Domaine owns 20 hectares of vines spread across some twenty appellations across the Cote de Beaune. Hand Picking with sorting as required,Pinot is completely destemmed then sees, five days of cold maceration before fermentation. New oak is sparingly used and is kept to about 35% for the Grand Crus. Since Christine has taken over quality has improved markedly. The 2012 harvest will be remembered for three things: the outstanding quality produced by the best growers, the tragically low yields and the marked increase in prices across the region. The walled 1.5 hectare Clos is a monopole of the domaine (1 hectare chardonnay & 0.5 of pinot noir) The vines have been in the family since 1969/70 and were rented by them even before that, and the average age is about 40 years. This is a very smart offering reflecting an excellent growing season and it will reward cellaring at a minimum wait 6 years
“A fresh and distinctly earthy nose of red and dark berry fruit aromas leads to fleshy, round and pliant medium weight flavors that possess good mid-palate volume. There is a touch of minerality to the dusty and delicious finish that is not especially complex though there is enough material present that more may be on the way with a few years of bottle age. 90 points.” Allen Meadows aka Burghound
