“I can’t think of too many estates in Piedmont that have raised the bar higher than Vietti has over the last decade or so. Virtually every wine that emerges from these cellars is outstanding, and many are profound … an unprecedented level of consistency and quality across their entire range.” ANTONIO GALLONI, Vinous Media
The Vietti family has been producing wine in Castiglione Falletto in the heart of Le Langhe in Piedmont for five generations, with 33 estate vineyards located across all 11 communes designated for the cultivation and production of Barolo, plus Roero for Arneis and Agliano Asti for Barbera and Moscato.
In 2016 Vietti was purchased by the American Krause family, however current generation winemaker Luca Currado-Vietti continues to direct the Vietti Estate meticulously, together with his wife Elena Penna-Currado, to produce some of the finest and most representative wines of Le Langhe.
Luca Carrudo and family at Vietti have certainly championed barbera as a variety.
100% Barbera grapes are selected from 3 young vineyards in Agliano Terme in Asti, one of which is also used for their single vineyard La Crena, followed by maturation in a combination of French and Slovenian oak and stainless steel for 12 months.
Wow this 2020 has the goods, its brimming with black fruits, spice and more-ish structure and cries out for food! Decant this wine now to relish the layers and dimensions of this fine wine too …some time in cellar recommended. Can’t remember so much enjoyment from this fabulous Barbera!
Review for 2018 … Wine Spectator Top 100, 90 points : “A bright, flashy version, featuring black currant and blackberry fruit that shows notes of vanilla and spice. The oak adds tannins, lending this a tight feel on the otherwise fine finish.”
