Description
Trediberri translates in italiano as the three from Berri (a little hamlet of La Morra, the highest town in Barolo and renowned for wines of elegance and refinement).
Father and son team Frederico & Nicola Oberto and friend Vladimiro Rambaldi (a banker) make up the trio and back in 2008 they purchased 5ha of Berri vineyards in La Morra. Anna Rosa Oberto (wife/mother) is also hands on pruning vines fastidiously when not working at the post office. The Oberto family also have 2ha of one of premium Barolo cru: Rocche dell’Annunziata. Their new winery in the village of Torriglione overlooks the vineyard.
Nic Oberto oversees the winemaking at Trediberri with his father Federico (following his retirement from Renato Ratti after several decades) and Enologist Livio Taretto, and Nic’s fiancée Stefania Drocco, plays an increasingly important role in the overall Trediberri story. Since 2012 Trediberri winery has been certified by CCPB srl, Bologna as in conversion to organic.
From the winery: “Our Barolo “classic” has been a blend of different vineyards until 2017 and it has always tried to represent the typical character of La Morra, in particular its drinkability and its finesse. This wine has never been extremely alcoholic or full-bodied, rather more characterized by a “weightless” power and freshness. Henceforth it doesn’t need a long time in the bottle to be joyfully consumed.”
Andrew Jefford named Trediberri amongst his “Five Outstanding Barolo & Barbaresco Producers for Value” August ’15
About the 2021 vintage … A mild, wet winter created water reserves for what became a very dry season. A long period of fine weather began with spring and lasted throughout the summer, with average temperatures recorded. The harvest of healthy and perfectly ripe berries began mid-September with whites and dolcetto, followed by barbera. The first picks of nebbiolo began in the last days of September, peaking in the second week of October, aided by lower temperatures and a marked diurnal shift from mid-September onwards. In summary, 2021 was a year of remarkable quality, and no doubt in part due to the lower yields.
About the 2021 vintage and Trediberri by Antonio Galloni, Vinous, January 2025 “2021 Barolo: Changing Times, Changing Wines”. Nicola Oberto and Stefania Drocco exude all the enthusiasm and passion of the younger generation in Piedmont. That comes through in wines that are increasingly pedigreed. Two thousand twenty-one was not without its challenges here. Frost wiped out 50% of the production in Rocche dell’Annunziata. As for the wines, they are positively stellar. The Nebbiolo harvest took place from October 6 to 21, on the later side for the year. Readers who have not discovered these wines owe it to themselves to do so. Not only are the wines brilliant, they also remain very fairly priced.”
Has the goods although tightly coiled.. tasted on day 2 the layers unfurled to reveal the joys of what is to come. One for the cellar alternatively recommend decanting.
95 points, Antonio Galloni “Nicola and Stefania Oberto are slowly putting Berri on the map. Silky, aromatic and creamy on the palate, the 2021 Barolo Berri is striking in its beauty. Crushed flowers, sweet red-toned fruit, chalk, mint and white pepper all meld together effortlessly. Silky, polished tannins frame the finish. The 2021 doesn’t have the immediacy of the 2020, but it may catch up to it one day because of its energy. It is a superb young Barolo—that much is clear. About 30% of wine saw submerged cap maceration. Time in cask was 25 months.”
