Description
Second label from Barossan cult producer, Spinifex. Known for their attention to detail, hands on winemaking and precision for blending their wines are all about finesse and complexity. Made from the same parcels of fruit that go into the Spinifex wines, Miette is made in a more forward, open style meaning they are approachable right now! As winemaker Pete Schell says .. “the wines are all about freshness, purity and balance. Wines made for food, family and friends.”
Mataro – aka Mourvèdre – has to be the most underrated black grape grown in Australia but with its thick skins, naturally balanced acidity and late ripening characteristics, the variety is ideally suited to Australian conditions, particularly to the warm chocolaty rich soils of the Barossa Valley. The inaugural Miette Mataro showcases the more elegant side of this variety. Fruit for this comes from select old vines in Kalimna and Tabor, east of Tanunda and is used in Spinifex’s flag ship Mataro, Tabor. Lovely savoury notes here .. . aniseed and red fruits. Deliciously smooth and vibrant sweet/savoury cherry and plum fruit, and long finish. Delivers so much for the price.
