Description
As one of the older estates in the region, Il Marroneto benefits from having well-established vineyards, high on the slopes of the hill of Montalcino. Giuseppe Mori initially conducted all of his winemaking in the basement of his house; production was so small that not much space was required. He has since passed on the responsibility running the estate to his son Alessandro, and the scale of production is not much larger than when it began. This is one of the smallest producers in Montalcino; highly traditional and focused on detail.
Everything here is very much hand crafted; wines spend extended time in Allier and Slovenian oak casks, and the single vineyard wine Madonna delle Grazie is also fermented in large oak vats. The simple, traditional approach results in wines that are a pure expression of their site.
Ignacio is a young Brunello, 100% Sangiovese, declassified fruit for the Brunello Il Marroneto made in the same way and style.
“Deep ruby with bricky rim. Real power yet restrained with powerful fruit cut through by acidity. Solid tannic frame. Lots of power and potential and more like a Brunello than a Rosso. (WS) Drink 2016-2022 17 pts “ Jancis Robinson review 15 Jan 2014
