Description
Clos Clare is a boutique winery just south of Watervale in the Clare Valley wine region. The estate was established in 1993 with the subdivision of the Warilto homestead on the property, including a small 2ha parcel of the famous Florita vineyard. The Florita vineyard has been renowned for producing the great wines of Leo Buring Leonay and Richmond Grove over many years. The original Florita riesling dates back to 1971. More recently, Clos Clare has also acquired a grenache vineyard in the Armagh region planted in 1964. Clos Clare is now owned by Tom and Sam Barry, grandsons of the legendary, late Jim Barry. It has become one of the great family wine stories of the Clare Valley.
This Luscious Grenache comes from dry-grown vines planted by Kevin Hayes in 1975. Run on biodynamic principals, pruned and jigged by one devoted vine dresser, the low yields deliver great character. The wine has an amazingly vivid purple hue, with the aromas dominated by wild strawberry, forest floor and freshly turned earth.
90 points James Halliday “While the colour is the usual Clare light red-purple, the bouquet and palate have greater stature than the normal offering; there is more structure courtesy of fine, savoury tannins and more plum and raspberry fruit. RRP $29
