Description
Chrismont wines were started by the Pizzini family in 1996 in the heart of Victoria’s King Valley. The La Zona label celebrate their rich history of Italian heritage and showcases Chrismont’s Italian and Spanish varietals.
La Zona Sangiovese engages you with its deep, vibrant red colour. A redolence of black cherries and spice on the bouquet are complemented with alluring lifted notes of violet. The acidity balances well with the generous round, fleshy front palate and velvety tannin structure that carries through to a dry, firm finish. A perfect food match for this wine is your favourite slow-cooked Italian dish.
92 points Nick Stock 2013 Good Wine Guide… “This has the bright, fragrant edge that makes sangiovese from the King Valley a really compelling proposition. Some fresh leafy notes here, cherries and a gentle oak thread add early complexity. The palate s nicely shaped and balanced, with really even tannin spread, juicy red fruit flavours and a cherry stone finish with a toasty oak edge.”
91 points James Halliday … “Light red-purple; has an exotic mix of red and black cherries, including morello and preserved cherries, plus spices and persistent savoury tannins. Cries out for Italian food. Very good outcome for the vintage.”
