Description
Barone Ricasoli is one of Chianti’s most important producers – certainly the most important historically, with a remarkable story that goes back well beyond the 12th century. The most historic of wine castles – Castello di Brolio and its remarkable 250 hectare Chianti Classico vineyard – has been the home to the Ricasoli family since 1141. A major revamp and modernisation of the vineyard and winery was undertaken in 1993 … the wines are not only considered amongst the finest in Tuscany but deliver extraordinary value.
Sourced entirely from the Castello di Brolio Estate vineyards. This is a blend of 80 per cent Sangiovese and 20 per cent Merlot that has spent nine months in barriques (70 per cent) and tonneaux (30 per cent) with a further year of bottle ageing prior to release. It’s a deliciously juicy wine with mulberry, roasted meat, subtle tobacco and pepper aromas. It’s fleshy yet with good savouriness and glossy tannins. Lovely. One of the stars of the line up and a wine that is drinking brilliantly. A superb and stylish example of the genre.
“The 2010 Chianti Classico Brolio is a gorgeous wine. In fact, it is one of the most delicious wines I have tasted from Ricasoli in a long time. Sweet dark cherries, licorice and tobacco burst from the glass in this big, hugely rewarding Chianti Classico. The purity and vibrancy of the fruit is striking. This is a terrific wine for the money.” 90 points, Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate #201
