Description
Second label of Yarra Yering made by Sarah Crowe, James Halliday’s 2017 Winemaker of the Year.
The Warramate vineyard was first planted in 1969 on a spectacular north-facing slope overlooking the central Yarra Valley. The site adjoins the Yarra Yering vineyard located above. On the other side of Maddens Lane, there is Yeringberg and Mount Mary. Pedigree in spades here in the Yarra Valley’s finest dirt.
Intense varietal nose in the bounds of youthful exuberance. Shows signature blackcurrant and sarsaparilla notes well supported by integrated leafy characters, synonymous with the variety. A medium-bodied “classic” claret style featuring a succulent, bright fruit layered palate integrated with earthy complexity and very fine dusty tannins. Juicy acidity underscores fruit purity and a deep, long finish, finesse rarely found at this price point.
95points, Jeni Port for James Halliday Wine Companion. “Destemmed, small open ferments, fermented on skins, a percentage of post ferment maceration. Medium-bodied, firm, great balance with immediate impact. A spicy, leafy, elegant cabernet with distinctive rosemary, dried herb, and Minties, confection. Grippy tannins hold promise on the ageing front.”
